A Scholarship to Honor the Life of a Great American

“I am not willing to stand aside and allow this concept of expendable human lives to turn this great land of ours into just another exclusive reservation where only the perfect, the privileged, and the planned have the right to live.”

The “The Dr. Mildred Fay Jefferson Memorial Scholarship.” will be an endowed scholarship available to any student enrolled in a Health Sciences curriculum at Panola College in Carthage, Texas. Mildred dearly loved her medical profession, and it only fitting that whoever receives the scholarship be passionate about medicine just like Dr. Jefferson.

The scholarship will be maintained and managed by the Panola College Foundation, a separate legal entity established for the sole purpose of providing financial assistance to the Panola College community. [Annual Report] [Financial Statements] As an endowed scholarship, the scholarship will only pay out earnings and profits. The principle will always be safe (as long as the U.S. currency is safe.

The scholarship will be an endowed scholarship. All endowed scholarships must have a minimum of $10,000 in principle. Once a scholarship has been initiated – applied for but not yet funded – the scholarship has three years to accumulate enough donations to reach the threshold of being endowed. If the scholarship fails to endow in three years, any donations already made are converted to general unrestricted funds of the endowment; they will not be applied to the “The Dr. Mildred Fay Jefferson Memorial Scholarship.”.

To protect our benefactors and so not to potentially fund a program that might be contrary to the beliefs of Dr. Jefferson, we are only taking pledges at this time! When the total pledges exceeds $10,000, we will contact you and bulk-submit the contributions to the college.
